Special interest groups serves the needs of membership cohorts. Specific issues and matters of interest to members of each group are circulated to group members. To be attached to a group you must be an A.I.R. member with email access. To be a member you request your branch membership officer (BMO) to include your name on the branch database register in the Special Interest Group section or contact the respective Group Coordinator of each group.

SMSF Special Interest Group

The members of this group will receive information on Self Managed Super Fund issues, regulation and legislative changes. Group members are encouraged to share SMSF questions, comments and experiences to broaden the knowledge of other members.

Baby Boomers Group

The purpose of this group is to provide a flow of information to members in the younger age group. Our objective is to demonstrate the relevance of A.I.R. to the baby boomer generation. The group regularly sources items of interest from the public domain and email it directly to members who have elected to receive the information.

410 & 405 Retirement Visa Advocacy Group

The group is actively involved in the coordination of advocacy and continues to pursue the ultimate aim of permanent residency, as well as seeking changes to reciprocal Health Agreements and Medicare benefits from which members are currently excluded. The cost of compulsory Overseas Visitors health Insurance for visa holders permanently resident in Australia is also under challenge.

Commonwealth, State and Defence Forces Superannuants Group

A further Special Interest Group for Commonwealth, State and Defence Force Superannuants (CSDFS) has been added as a further classification of special interest for members who were former public service employees. Membership of the Special Interest Group is open to any A.I.R. member receiving public service superannuation benefits. Interested members should request their BMO to enter a valid email address and tick the appropriate Special Interest Group box within the Admin Section of the branch register. A national group coordinator has not yet been appointed.

Australian Shareholders Association ASA

By arrangement with ASA members of A.I.R. have access to ASA's program of financial education seminars and annual conference at equivalent ASA membership rates. A.I.R. members are also encouraged to appoint ASA representatives as their proxy for the AGMs of listed companies in which they have shareholdings.

Australian Investors Association AIA Alliance

A.I.R. through its partnership alliance with AIA provides opportunities for members to be take advantage of an ongoing program of financial education. This allows A.I.R members to access the following services:

1.Free access to AIA Monthly eNewsletter Investor Update. A.I.R. members can access this service via the AIA website (see below). On the home page there is a section titled Non Members -Sign up for free "Investor Update" newsletter. Click on this section and provide the requested details. Members will only receive the newsletter (no SPAM) and can unsubscribe at any time.

2. Optional attendance at AIA half and one day financial seminars. A.I.R. members attending the financial seminars will pay the same reduced rate as AIA members. A.I.R. members wishing to attend do so by a direct booking through AIA. A.I.R. members must identify themselves as A.I.R. members to receive the reduced rate. The AIA office contact telephone number is 1300 555 061 (Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 1.30 pm).

A.I.R. will receive advance notice from AIA of forthcoming seminars. The information will be published through various A.I.R. channels such as the Baby Boomers Group (BB Group) and by email to Division Presidents in the respective state in which financial seminars are to be held.

3. Attendance at the AIA Annual Conference.   The AIA Conference has a reputation as THE premier investment conference each year.   Held over 3 days it brings together 40 leading experts dealing with shares, fixed income, property, superannuation investments and estate planning.   Members wishing to attend an AIA Conference will pay the reduced AIA member rate.    Direct bookings can be made with AIA in the same way as outlined in 2.
